Solar science lab for Government Secondary School Akoko

An old, under-equipped school — but the future and gifted students learning there deserve a proper place to study science. The Foundation looked beyond today and delivered a solar-powered lab in 2025.

The journey

Seeing beyond what is, for what could be

Government Secondary School Akoko had been teaching science in conditions that did not match the ability of its students. The buildings were old, the lab was not well equipped, and yet the school’s future leaders and gifted learners kept showing up — ready to learn.

The Foundation saw beyond the present state of the school. Rather than wait for perfect conditions, we pushed to build a dedicated science laboratory that students could use with dignity: practical benches, proper fittings, and a learning environment worthy of the work being done inside it.

The lab was delivered in 2025 and runs on solar power, so practical lessons are not cut short when the grid fails. It is an investment in students who are already doing their part — now they have a room that matches their potential.

“It reduced pressure and kept me focused on school.”

On the ground

Investing in schools that others overlook

When a community’s gifted students keep learning in difficult conditions, the right response is to meet them with infrastructure that lasts.
